Labour's
Harry Holland attempted to modify his party's land nationalism policy
which was anathema to farmers, offending core supporters without
denting rural support for Gordon Coates' Reform Party.
J.
C. Hill ( died 1957) had been a tea planter in Ceylon and a
commercial turtle hunter before becoming the Auckland Star's first
cartoonist in 1927. He remained in the position until 1953.
