Stealing His Thunder
J. C. Hill, Auckland Star, 1927
Reference no: J-044-004

Labour's Harry Holland attempted to modify his party's land nationalism policy which was anathema to farmers, offending core supporters without denting rural support for Gordon Coates' Reform Party.

J. C. Hill ( died 1957) had been a tea planter in Ceylon and a commercial turtle hunter before becoming the Auckland Star's first cartoonist in 1927. He remained in the position until 1953.
