Richard John Seddon reliving his earlier years at Kumara in the South Island. He began his political career as the West Coast town's first mayor in 1877.

Fred Hiscocks' cartoon booklet was a popular success in 1902, as were others dealing with Joseph Ward and the prohibition controversy. He cartooned for Christchurch's Weekly Press between 1902-1914 and the Chronicles of the NZEF during the war. He was appointed cartoonist of the London Daily News in 1925.
