The
1960s, in New Zealand and elsewhere, was the decade of protest,
in street marches and rallies. Wellingtonians had a catholic range
of local, national and international issues to protest about.
Nevile
Lodge (1918-89) drew his first 'Lodge Laughs' cartoons for the
Evening Post in 1947. He became the Wellington evening daily's political
cartoonist in 1956 and remained so until his retirement in 1988.
