Henry Holland campaigning in Christchurch. The city's mayor and a member of parliament, he was father of Sir Sidney G Holland, prime minister from 1949-57.

David Low (1891-1963) was a regularly published cartoonist at 11. He cartooned for the Canterbury Times in 1910-11, before leaving for Australia and then Britain and a career as one of the 20th century's most illustrious cartoonists.
