Rick Neville joined the NPA in April 2013 following a 45-year career in publishing in New Zealand and Australia.
A former reporter on NZ dailies and in the Parliamentary Press Gallery, Rick Neville was editor of the Nelson Mail 1982-87 and editor of the Evening Post (Wellington) 1987-1991.
Rick Neville then moved to the head office of Independent Newspapers Ltd (INL), now Fairfax Media, and held a number of senior roles including Group GM, Chief Operating Officer and Managing Director, Publishing. He was an executive director of INL and a non-executive director of Sky Network Television Ltd.
In 2002, he was appointed Chief Executive of Advertiser Newspapers Ltd, News Corp Australia’s publishing operations based in Adelaide.
Rick Neville returned to NZ in 2003, initially working as a consultant setting up the Herald on Sunday and later holding a range of senior positions with APN (now NZME.) including Publisher, Herald on Sunday; deputy Chief Executive, APN; Publisher/CEO NZ Magazines; Group Executive Editor; and Chief Operating Officer, APN Regional Newspapers.
Rick Neville is a former president of the NPA and chairman of New Zealand Press Association and served for many years on the boards of the NPA and NZPA. He is currently chairman of the executive committee of the NZ Press Council Inc.
