Murray Ball

Ball’s famous ‘Footrot Flats’ cartoon strip was syndicated in New Zealand, Australian, UK and Scandinavian newspapers for 35 years. In the l980s, playwright Roger Hall wrote a Footrot Flats stage play, and Ball co-wrote with Tom Scott ‘ The Dogs Tail Tale ’ – a full length animated movie. Ball drew for Punch magazine in the UK in the 1970s - ‘Stanley the Palaeolithic Hero’, and then ‘All the King’s Comrades’. His ‘Bruce the Barbarian’ featured in the English Labour Weekly. He has written and illustrated numerous books and published a large number of cartoon collections". Ball was made an Officer of the New Zealand Order of Merit (ONZM) in 2002 for services as a cartoonist.
